BEN & JERRY'S AND JEWEL FOOD STORES TEAM UP
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Sold at Jewel will Benefit Food Drive CHICAGO - Former Chicago Bear Chris Zorich has teamed up with Ben and Jerry's and Jewel Food Stores to raise money for The Christopher Zorich Foundation's Care to Share family food program. In addition to boxing and delivering Thanksgiving groceries to the homes of 300 less fortunate families on Saturday, November 16, this year Jewel and Ben and Jerry's have teamed up to sponsor the event. During the month of November, a percentage from every pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream purchased from any Jewel in the Chicagoland area will be donated to The Christopher Zorich Foundation. Profits from the donations, estimated to be in the thousands of dollars. "I look forward to the food drive all year long, it is a time for families to reach out and help one and other," says Zorich. "I am especially grateful to Jewel and Ben and Jerry's, who have given us the ability to help a much larger audience this year." Growing up poor, Zorich remembers many Thanksgivings when he and his mother Zora waited in line for hours to receive holiday food baskets. Zorich recalls, "As a kid, waiting in line for food makes an impression. I promised myself that if I was ever in a position to help people, so they wouldn't have to wait in line, I would do it." Ben and Jerry's Homemade, Inc. is a Vermont-based manufacturer of ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet, which was founded in 1978 by childhood friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, with a $12,000 investment. They soon became popular for their innovative flavors, made from fresh Vermont milk and cream. The company currently distributes ice cream, low fat ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet and novelty products nationwide as well as in selected foreign countries in supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, franchised Ben & Jerry's scoop shops, restaurants and other venues. The Ben & Jerry's Foundation gives over $1.1 million dollars annually. The Foundation supports projects relating to social, economic and environmental justice issues.
