Thanks to all volunteers signing up for this year's program. "My Mom always told me, "Treat the world as you would your family and you'll be rewarded with loyalty and kindness,' remembers Chris. To honor my Mom's ideals I established the Care To Share family food program, which assists families at Thanksgiving."
Deliveries are made prior to Thanksgiving Day, and has become a major event. It draws a visit from Chicago's Mayor Richard M. Daley and widespread media coverage, which has been instrumental in attracting sponsors and increasing the amount of donated goods. Surplus inventory is donated to shelters and food pantries after all deliveries have been made.
Since its 1993 inception, the Care To Share program has provided nourishment and goodwill to over 25,000 Chicagoans.
Hunger is a serious problem that knows no season or holiday. You can help make a difference in your community. Call the Illinois Hunger Coalition's hot line (800-359-2163 for in-state callers) to find the food pantry in yours, or a surrounding community. Then contact the pantry to see what sorts of food donations are most needed. Also ask what time of year the pantry most needs donations. Your efforts will make a difference.
