Here are a few local organizations that can use a helping hand just about anytime.
- Anti-Cruelty Society: For animal lovers... minimum commitment of 5 hours/month. Thirteen volunteer programs available, from interacting with the public to working with the animals. New volunteers attend a 3-hour orientation. Call (312) 644-8338.
- Cabrini Connections: Tutoring and mentor program for 7th through 12th graders living in Cabrini Green. Year-round program - commitment is one evening a week for 2 hours. Call (312) 492 9614

- Chicago Cares: Offers over 90 community service projects each month, requiring participants for a limited time. Call (312) 780-0800 or visit www.chicagocares.org.
- Chicago Coalition for the Homeless: A variety of special events offer one-time volunteer opportunities. Other events requiring volunteers throughout the year include serving Thanksgiving dinner, buying/wrapping gifts for homeless children and joining in the annual benefit concert. - Dress for Success: Non-profit organization providing low-income women with interview suits and career development. Sponsors 'Clean Your Closet Week', March 17-24, looking for donations of suits and appropriate workplace attire for women returning to the work force. - Northwestern Memorial Hospital: Opportunities include visiting patients, distributing books on tape and helping with diversional activities for long term patients. NMH requests a 6 month commitment of at least one evening or day per week. Call (312) 926-2072 or visit www.nmh.org.
